I am pleased to launch Doctor’s Wellness today. A social enterprise to enable connection, collegiate support and self-care for locums, international medical graduates, doctors in Aboriginal health settings and rural and remote locations. If this sounds like you, thank you for the wonderful service you provide to our communities in most need and please remember to prioritise your own self-care.
In launching this initiative, I wish to thank friends and colleagues who have supported the concept, in particular Dr Sarah-Jane McEwan.
The first Doctor’s Wellness Retreat will be held in the Byron Bay Hinterland from 16-18 November 2018 for a small group of doctors. Dr Rosie Ross is collaborating with me in facilitating this retreat and will lead a session titled ‘Healing the Healer’.
Dr Rosie holds an MBBS (Hons), BHSc (Nat Med) is an RACGP Fellow, practice principal of Northside Health, Registrar Supervisor with GP Synergy, Conjoint lecturer UNSW Coffs Harbour and currently undertaking post graduate studies with the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine.
Dr Rosie has a special interest in assisting health professionals avoid burnout by using simple stress management techniques and sustainable self-care strategies noting that the Beyondblue National Mental Health Survey of Doctors and Medical Students (2013) found that thousands of participants reported high levels of stress and burnout.
An engaging speaker who encourages audience participation, Dr Rosie is regularly invited to speak at both public and professional engagements including the Commonwealth Bank and Women’s Business Associations.
I welcome connection with other like-minded people, please contact me if you wish to discuss future opportunities to collaborate www.doctorswellness.org/connect.
